The book of Ruth begins by exposing how the tragedies of life got the
full attention of Elimelech and tempted him to make unwise decisions
that caused more tragic outcomes. This providential book begins thus
so that we may realize that the tragedies of life tend to get our full
attention and if not put in proper perspective can cause us to make
unwise decisions and put ourselves and our families in jeopardy of
judgment and weaken the covenant people of God.
